7 tips to get rid of worrying

When we feel that things are out of our control we tend to worry but how do you stop worrying? Most of the awful things we imagine will happen never do. We can be thankful for that.

We should understand that worrying never helps a situation get better. Worrying sends a message to ourselves and those around us that we are helpless and have no where to turn. However, as a Christian, we believe that God has everything in His control. If He really does, and we really believe that, then we have nothing to worry about. We only need to trust that God will take care of everything according to His plan.

Here are 7 tips from the Bible to help us stop worrying.

Pray To Stop Worrying

Philippians 4:6, 7 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

These wonderful verses tell us to not be filled with care or worry, but to trust God in prayer. Stop worrying by taking your requests to Him. There is nothing wrong with having concern over matters and sharing that with God and with others so that you can pray.

Often in prayer you will hear people asking God for peace in a situation. Why do we need peace? Because without the hope we have in God we would be filled with worry. Paul tells us in these verses we can trade our worry for peace through prayer.

Be Thankful

In the above verses to the Philippians, Paul says that another aspect of getting rid of worry is to be thankful. Be thankful for the things you have. Don’t dwell on those things you cannot control.

Paul indicates that there is nothing wrong with taking your questions and concerns to God. But we should not go to Him out of anger and demand that He work everything out the way we want. We should humbly go to Him in prayer, with a thankful heart, and ask Him to give us that peace that will open our minds to understand and accept His plan.

Think on Good Things

Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Just after Paul’s comments about worry he says that we should think on good, godly things. When we focus on positive and wholesome events, memories, plans, etc., then it is hard to be worried about everything else.

Holy Spirit Can Bring Peace

John 14:26, 27 “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

In John 14 Jesus is explaining to the disciples where He is going and that He will return. In the meantime the Holy Spirit of God will come and indwell the believers. This was something new to the people of Jesus’ day. They did not have the Holy Spirit living within them like we do as believers today.

One of the names of the Holy Spirit that Jesus often used was Comforter. As a comforter the Holy Spirit can help take your cares and ease them. That doesn’t mean we never have concern for things, but we don’t worry like we would if we didn’t trust that God was in charge. The Holy Spirit is our companion to remind us that God has control.

Trust God’s Strength

Psalm 27:1-3 “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.”

Isaiah 41:10 “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Life was a lot less scary (and worrisome) when we were kids and we had parents who were bigger and stronger than us. When we had problems we could go to them and they would say that they would take care of it. We have a God that wants to do that for us today. Will you take your concerns to Him and rely on His strength? He is waiting to take that burden from you.

Worry is Not From God

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Fear that we have is not from God. Understand that the basis of your worry ultimately comes back to the fact that you are not trusting God. God wants us to stop worrying and not to be afraid.

Remember that God Cares For You

1 Peter 5:6, 7 “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

God cares for you and me. He wants to take our problems and resolve them. Isn’t it frustrating for us as parents to see our children struggling with a problem, but they won’t listen to us on how to solve it? They come to us and tell us things are wrong, yet when we offer a solution they take the problem back and try to solve it on their own. It makes us hurt for their sakes. What are we doing to God when we worry? When we tell Him we want His help, but then we take the problem back and try to shoulder it ourselves?

I have a friend that says she gets worried when she has nothing to worry about. I know she is joking when she says that, but the truth is we often do the same thing. Worry and anxiety becomes a habit. In some way it gives us comfort, yet it is not healthy and it shows a lack of faith.

When you are tempted to worry or stress remind yourself that worry is a lack of faith in God. When you can trust that God has a perfect plan, then you will be able to stop worrying.

Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

My Help Comes from the LORD

All of us know this and practice it in relation to the basic physical necessities of life. We take steps to see that we have enough to eat and clothes to keep us warm. But do we take our spiritual needs that seriously? Do we apply the same earnestness in planning to maximize our ministry as we do in planning to make a living?
What I would like to do here is to try to persuade you to set aside time each week in the coming year to plan—and specifically to plan your life of prayer and devotion and ministry. The bulldozer of God's Spirit often arrives at the scene of our heart ready to begin some great work of building, and he finds that due to poor planning there are piles of disordered things in his way. We're not ready for him.

John Piper talks about how we should take planning seriously and he also motivates us to do this through the four examples of planning in the Bible. First, some illustrations from the Proverbs; second, the planning of the apostle Paul; third, the planning of God; and fourth, the planning of Jesus. Here are my new year resolutions/ commitments to God this 2012:

1. Pray for an overseas mission trip opportunity.
Since i have been praying about an overseas mission trip opportunity during the past few weeks, God has opened several doors. He has been faithful & i would like to share with you the opportunities given.

Logos Hope- door closed.
A few days ago tim got back to me about the tentative months for Logos Hope. The timing isnt suitable as im looking at the few months in between after poly & starting uni (march-august).

Thailand, Baan Orn
My passion for the people in Ban Orn still stays in my heart. Things that will be done there are the medical clinic, gospel + in line skating camp, visiting several other villages at Baan Orn Out & ministering to the people there. However i am still praying if this is where God wants me to go.
Dates: 27 May- 5 June

Uganda, organsied by deb chen
They will be collaborating with the helping hands organisation for the trip there. Tentative plans are to conduct mural wall paintings, many other arts and craft as well as playing sports with the children at the orphanages there.
Dates: end june

CRASH, Japan
Christian Relief, Assistance, Support and Hope (CRASH) Japan is a network supporting Christians to do relief work in Japan and around the world. CRASH Japan equips and prepares churches and missions to be there to help their communities when disasters strike and coordinates Christian volunteers to work with local ministries in the event of a disaster. Things that will be done are like from cleaning out houses and structures of sludge and debris to replanting and restoring gardens and through the 1 or 2 weeks working from the basecamps nearby the affected areas, they seek to build relationships with residents over that time through their service.
Dates: mid march

God has been faithful and gave opportunities but i think i should be faithful as well in praying to go for one so that i may not be over distracted by going for all.

2. Seek to be consistent in doing QT daily
Whether i may be busy in school or (maybe) pretty free during after graduation, i truly seek to have a consistent walk with the Lord with daily reading of the word & prayer.

3. Read 10 books in a year
okay, honestly i dont know if this is a too ambitious commitment for me. As many may know, i dislike reading and take super long to finish reading a book (sometimes can take up to many thousand months or even 1-2 book per year no kidding!) But i see that it is really essential to read books so im going to be ambitious and commit to this in this year. I will be really glad if anyone can start recommending me books to read! (gosh, there are so many good books out there i dont know where & how to start! hahahaha)

4. Be appreciative
Sadly the past monster year have stopped me from writing encouragement cards/birthday cards/christmas cards and be appreciative to those who have been so lovely & encouraging. SO this year im gonna FIGHT the busy monster that is draining me so badly & START being my old encouraging self again heehee :)

5. At least a mile
Since i have officially put on hold competitive ultimate frisbee, there should be even more reasons for me to keeping exercising! From 2-3 trainings per week, now to at least once a week of leisure frisbee games :) okay, even though it is a drastic change from a hardworking many miles to a relax, run-at-your-own-pace during the leisure pick ups, i am still committed to run during the games! *okay michelle, so better stop standing there and laugh but start running & taking action during the picks up! no excuse that you are enjoying yourself therefore no running concept!!!* Also, i gladly welcome anyone who wanna join me in playing frisbee at pasir ris parks :D

i know that you hate my busy schedule. i know that you're unhappy whenever im taking up so much work. But i really want to do it in service to God. im sorry for making you worry! i wish i had more time as well. maybe i should try wearing 2 watches on my hand to get 48hrs per day?

Now into the 3rd week of the highly stressful final semester for my school. Its really nice that i was greeted by encouragement from God's word by tim first thing on a monday morning :) thank you Lord for guiding me through the past 2 weeks of school, being able to be discipline through Your grace :) These past few months and months to come have been & will be juggling several projects & commitments. Though looking at my timeline makes me breathless already, but i trust that our sovereign God will carry me through ♥

I learnt a precious lesson- to appreciate teachers more and more! In the past, i always admire teachers for teaching and handling hundreds of students. However i fail to understand the pain of getting worked up in disciplining and teaching in class yet after that having meetings after meetings to analyse, discuss and worry over the students academic, conduct and learning process. I could really see how much they invested in the lives of these students who may be unappreciative of their efforts. Their passion in teaching and their concern for the students really amazes me.

What is beautiful to Jesus won’t make the cover of Vogue.

Let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. - 1 Peter 3:4

Beauty has a cost. Between potion for wrinkles, serum for age spots and cream for gray hair, my cart runneth over with beauty products I can’t afford. Inner beauty has a cost also. As I get older and the battle for beauty becomes pronounced, I find myself asking questions about beauty. What does it mean to be beautiful? Who defines beautiful?

Redefine Beauty

Men, what is beautiful to you? At what point does a pretty lady that catches your eye become old or worn enough to lose that label? Husbands, is your wife becoming more beautiful to you as you see her emulate Jesus? Beauty does not begin and end with mere age, dress, or ability to appeal to the senses.

Consider the woman who is, in her beauty, more like Jesus than a Cover Girl. If God lovingly instructs women to beautify themselves from the inside out, you certainly should consider a woman’s beauty as originating and emanating from her heart. A heart made alive by Jesus is a beautiful thing indeed.

Jesus = Beautiful

Beauty has many faces. It is difficult to define objectively. Anything beautiful reflects the glory of God in some way and inspires us to worship. With that description in mind, the most obvious object of beauty that comes to mind is Christ. He defines and demonstrates true beauty. And not because he was easy on the eyes… his sacrificial love and service, humble heart and righteousness are the source of his beauty. Because he is beautiful, we can be also. Our ability to have inner beauty cost Jesus his life.

Address the Hidden Person of the Heart

Just as we will often ask our friends or husband whether we look beautiful, we ought to ask Jesus the same question. He is faithful to the ongoing internal make-over of his daughters. He will answer. In an especially ugly-feeling moment after a hard week with my family, I cried out to God and asked him how he wanted his beauty to manifest itself in my life. The answer? Cheerful service and gentle correction.

Serving others can be a beautiful demonstration of godliness in a person’s life. It can also be a pious cover for a grumbling, bitter heart that wants others to think more highly of them. In addressing the hidden person of my heart, God wanted me to stop faking beauty and willingly and joyfully serve those he brought into my life.

Harsh words so easily spring from my lips. There is a certain sense of power and control that comes from correcting my wayward child with a sharp tone. God continues to lovingly remind me that it is his kindness that leads me to repentance (Romans 2:4) and that kindness when correcting another is a beautiful sight to behold.

How is God desiring his beauty to shine through your life? Our love of beauty should compel us to desire what is truly beautiful. Beauty flows out of a heart hidden in the beauty of Christ. Next time you’re tempted to compare yourself with that magazine cover-model, remember the Lord’s words to Samuel thousands of years ago that are still as true today: “Man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart" (1 Sam 16:7).

Are You Thrilled to Be Loved by Jesus?

There are many ways to reflect, analyse and crystalise one’s thoughts. When we are faced with issues, there are certain ways we use to deal with it whether is it healthy habits or not. The key importance is whether the way of dealing with is honouring and glorify to God? Recently, God made me realize that my ways of dealing with things are really unhealthy. Im really thankful that God pointed out my flaws, bad habits and the unhealthy ways of doing things. Sometimes I just missed the point of being thrilled to be loved by Jesus and how we are being saved by grace. Identifying, accepting and having dependency on God will eliminate self-condemnation. Its so funny how Im aware of certain things but did not realize it until someone else helps to point that out to me. Thank you for always helping me to crystalise my thoughts though!

This is something written by John Piper and I hope it encourages you to be thrilled to be loved by Jesus as well! We are all fallen and imperfect creatures. The need for God is very crucial and essential. The understanding of how He uses our weakness to glorify Himself is something we have to learn acceptance and embrace the Sovereign God.

Believers in Jesus are precious to God (we're his bride!). And he loves us so much that he will not allow our preciousness to become our god.

God does indeed make much of us (adoption!), but he does so in a way that draws us out of ourselves to enjoy his greatness.

Test yourself. If Jesus came to spend the day with you, sat down beside you on the couch, and said, “I really love you,” what would you focus on the rest of the day that you spend together?

It seems to me that too many songs and sermons leave us with the wrong answer. They leave the impression that the heights of our joy would be in the recurrent feeling of being loved. “He loves me!” “He loves me!” This is joy indeed. But not the heights and not the focus.

What are we saying with the words “I am loved”? What do we mean? What is this “being loved”?

Would not the greatest, most Christ-exalting joy be found in watching Jesus all day and bursting with, “You’re amazing!” “You are amazing!”
He answers the hardest question, and his wisdom is amazing.
He touches a filthy, oozing sore, and his compassion is amazing.
He raises a dead lady at the medical examiner’s office, and his power is amazing.
He predicts the afternoon’s events, and his foreknowledge is amazing.
He sleeps during an earthquake, and his fearlessness is amazing.
He says, “Before Abraham was, I AM,” and his words are amazing.

We walk around with him utterly amazed at what we are seeing.

Is not his love for us his eagerness to do for us all he must do (including die) so that we can marvel at him and not be incinerated by him? Redemption, propitiation, forgiveness, justification, reconciliation — all these have to happen. They are the act of love. But the goal of love that makes those acts loving is that we be with him and see his jaw-dropping glory and be astounded. In those moments we forget ourselves and see and feel him.

So I am urging pastors and teachers: Push people through the acts of Christ’s love to the goal of his love. If redemption and propitiation and forgiveness and justification and reconciliation are not taking us to the enjoyment of Jesus himself, they are not love.

Press on this. It’s what Jesus prayed for. “Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory” (John 17:24).

i cant believe i spent several hours replying to all the fb wishes until my eyes were so tired last night +.+ i think something weird about me is that i love checking mails and totally cant stand it when i have 354 emails unread! all spammed by fb -.- maybe its the mac mail thing; when there's an unread email, there's a red thing on the mail logo shouting at you to read it! hahahahaha.

i just stepped into the tweenteens world and my wisdom tooth is growing! pretty uncomfortable :| Anyways, i truly thank God for watching and guiding me for these 20 years of my life! From how we were in Malaysia, leaving my dad, starting anew in Singapore, mum taking up the super mum role of being our mother, sole breadwinner of the family, our teacher, our cook, our cleaner :p etc and how He brought us back to His side to Joy Fellowship church and to Shalom BP church, I CANT STOP PRAISING HIM! ♥

Indeed God has been really gracious and faithful! Even through these past few months, He never failed to pick me up in times when i was lost and faithless. There were so many times when He guided me back to Himself and told me "Do not worry, I AM YOUR GOD & i will never forsake you." God indeed you are so great and sovereign above all. Thank you for blessing me with such wonderful friends like ruth & tim that allowed me to keep my focus back to you :) Though this past few months was filled with tearful prayers and struggles, i thank You for putting me through them. It is through this that i know more about Your character and how You have been moulding me through these situations. Recently, I discovered more about myself when facing new situations. It feels kinda weird and it just serves as a good reminder that there's so much more to learn about God to be Christlike :)

im really extremely sorry for the times when i was selfish, when i was afraid and not trusting God enough. Sorry for the times when i wanted to choose the easy way out but realises that my decision does not affect only me but the people ard me as well. Sorry for not being able to vocalise my thoughts, but i dont know why it has been really hard. Thank you for being so patient and understanding. Thank you for trusting in God! Thank you for teaching and reminding me about God along the way! To God be the glory!

bought 10fishes last week & many died alr :( so fasttttt

have been sick after since sun, maybe its due to not enough sleep/water or long hours under the sun, but this sore throat, flu & headache is making me feel so dead. i dont like it when sometimes being sick makes me physically, emotionally and mentally down :(

love my time at tp!

for these few weeks, school curriculum have been more slack in terms of going to school for lessons. Sometimes i only need to go for school for 2-3 days per week :) however the workload given is still so.much.as.usual. with 2 days free (including trg days) per week, i had to be discipline & organise my time well. studying at home hasnt been very productive so i followed laura to go to tp to study alone instead! ive been going tp at least once a week for the past few weeks cause its really a good place to do work :) okay, considering that i MUST have power plugs available, which sadly many places outside dont really offer. ive been wanting to meet jo, vivian & celia for lunch someday soon! :))

by the way, the food portions is tp is really small :( like will get hungry straight away after eating finish.

oh yes yes, you know tp has this very nice triangle park, fountains & a (highly advance- according to some lousy person who havent tried before hahahahaha) foot reflexology! :D

okay quick updates (cause im having a splitting headache nowww)!

we've been asked to join the gender tournament, playing for zd on the 5-6th march. i was really thrilled to receive the message & wanting to play so much in gender ultimate games cause you'll really learn a lot! however, just before agreeing & signing up for the competition, i asked mum if i was able to play & she strongly did not allow me to play. 5&6th march are the exact dates that we are moving house!!! the competition that i yearn to play so much fell on an important date. no matter how much i tried to persuade mum, she doesnt allow. though i understand that being part of the family, i had to play my part by helping to move but deep down i really wanna join this competition. you've no idea how dishearten i felt. in the midst of all this, something very strong came to my mind.. "obey your parents".. "for it is a commandment"..."obey your parents for it honours your Father"..."obey your parents"... so ive decided to ask my captain to give me more time to persuade my mum. even if her final decision does not allow me to go, i will obey. thanks kor for helping me to persuade mum! thank you for understanding in my stand of not just signing up and going ahead with it though i know she does not allow. thanks soh & jiayi for cheering me up in class and taking away the gloomy clouds. haha. elated that soh is going to dalian with us btw!! :D trina you're the best! going to the gym and having a great meal ending up with nice yogurt ice cream at sogurt made a lot of difference :)

packing my room last night brought back much memories! so many old school stuff and hilarious childish diaries etc :) with only 5h of sleep, felt much accomplished! at least we went to buy the toiletries (after visiting several shops & going to same shops 3 times!), lightings etc :) however the contract is really sighs.

1 more week till the renovation is done! pray that God will grant mum with much patience and strength in dealing with the renovation and unreliable contractor!

what saddens me the most, is the motives behind all these wants and desires.

are we truly genuine when it comes to caring for people or to meet up with them to know if they are fine? are we talking to people because we care for them or merely to know a little more abt them/secrets that the others do not? why are we playing this life boat game where you just want to pursue things that make you feel/look better than the rest; elevating yourself up and pushing others down? what satisfaction does that give to you? what is the point of comparing these popularity status? does that gives you eternal satisfaction or a temporal satisfaction? what are our motives behind all our actions?

This week in the study of Haggai chapter 1, we were reminded again to STOP building our own little 'house' of pleasure but to continue building the 'temple of God'. the people in the book of Haggai had their own reasons in stopping the building of the house of the Lord and they even uses scripture to support their stand in delaying the building. they gave excuse that the 70th year have not yet arrived so they should not continue etc. what are our reasons for stopping the building of our spiritual treasures and the temple of God and being so eagerly enthusiastic about building our treasures here on earth which are temporal?

i really wanna have a getaway mans.

Been thinking about it since mid jan :x (i know it is the beginning of the year) but i really wanna get away from all these and go to some unknown island where is quite and just mediate on God's word & read a book the whole day for a week! haha. It really doesnt sound like me, reading a book?! But thats what i long for. There's so much distractions here & things that draws my attention more than reading a book.

It has been really stressful this few days. Stressful not because of the heavy workload (yet) but cause i cant seem to think of any ideas for our campaign project. I feel that i totally didnt contribute at all :( totally uncreative.

I think i have been very slack this term. I think i slept almost 8h everyday and 6h occasionally. Can you imagine with so much sleep, i still can make it for all trainings? Of all the days in poly, i always struggle to complete the submissions in time and squeezes time to go for trgs but not now anymore. I admit last term i could manage its all God's grace & cause He granted me with good time management. This term is purely because ive got less motivation in sch and what ju&ting calls it- nualeogy. Actually its not very bad being slack cause at least i had sufficient rest & ive not fallen sick for the past 2 months! Really praise God cause in the past i fell sick every fortnightly & took more than a week to recover. hehehe.

i look forward to June!

I think i might try to find time & spend some quite moments in this 5 day CNY break.

it was Ms Mdm Shirlynn & Mr Matthew's mini wedding celebration in studio :) i was greatly overwhelmed&impressed by the standards of creative videos that our course mates produced. it was the first time we went for a hive event & it was indeed fun&interesting!

on a side note, soh was also talking to me about the materials and wants of the world. the truth is everyone wants to satisfy their cravings in material things. especially as designers, it is harder to withstand the advance technology, gadgets&fashion that others may tempt us with. maybe we could not abstain ourselves from it (though i would really much want to&go to places like ban on village&live there forever.hehe) but i think these wants should not cloud our mind such that God is nowhere to be seen. we must be reminded that God is the one that provides for us & we should not be constantly eager in pursuing these things but more importantly, pursuing God&His word. Guide us O Lord :)

Question: "What sort of New Year’s Resolution should a Christian make?"

Answer: The practice of making New Year’s resolutions goes back over 3000 years to the ancient Babylonians. There is just something about the start of a New Year that gives us the feeling of a fresh start and a new beginning. In reality, there is no difference between December 31st and January 1st. Nothing mystical occurs at midnight on December 31st. The Bible does not speak for or against the concept of New Year’s resolutions. However, if a Christian determines to make a New Year’s resolution, what kind of resolution should he or she make?

Common New Year’s resolutions are: to quit smoking, to stop drinking, to manage money better, and spend more time with family. By far the most common New Year’s resolution is to lose weight, in conjunction with exercising more and eating healthier. These are all good goals to set. However, 1 Timothy 4:8 instructs us to keep exercise in perspective: “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” The vast majority of New Year’s resolutions, even among Christians, are in relation to physical things. This should not be.

Many Christians make New Year’s resolutions to pray more, to read the Bible every day, and to attend church more regularly. These are fantastic goals. However, these New Year’s resolutions fail just as often as the non-spiritual resolutions, because there is no power in a New Year’s resolution. Resolving to start or stop doing a certain activity has no value unless you have the proper motivation for stopping or starting that activity. For example, why do you want to read the Bible every day? Is it to honor God and grow spiritually, or is it because you have just heard that it is a good thing to do? Why do you want to lose weight? Is it to honor God with your body, or is it for vanity, to honor yourself?

Philippians 4:13 tells us, “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.” John 15:5 declares, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” If God is the center of your New Year’s resolution, it has chance for success, depending on your commitment to it. If it is God’s will for something to be fulfilled, He will enable you to fulfill it. If a resolution is not God honoring and/or is not in agreement in God’s Word, we will not receive God’s help in fulfilling the resolution.

So, what sort of New Year’s resolution should a Christian make? Here are some suggestions: (1) Pray to the Lord for wisdom (James 1:5) in regards to what resolutions, if any, He would have you make; (2) Pray for wisdom as to how to fulfill the goals God gives you; (3) Rely on God’s strength to help you; (4) Find an accountability partner who will help you and encourage you; (5) Don’t become discouraged with occasional failures; instead allow them to motivate you further; (6) Don’t become proud or vain, but give God the glory. Psalm 37:5-6, “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.”

This youth camp has given us the wonderful opportunity to be in conversation with God through prayer. How often do we neglect God in the midst of our busyness of life and all the distractions that draws us away from God? How often do we see the need to prayer; in adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication? Do we take prayer seriously? Do we take God seriously?

This camp taught us many lesson and reminders. It allows us to have ample time to pray and spend personal time with God. There were activities on day 2 and 3 when we were allocated to go to different prayer rooms. The first prayer room taught us how to pray through a guided model of ACTS (adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication). The second modeled after the Lord’s Prayer where we spend a lot of personal time reflecting, carrying out certain activities that helps us visualize the value and meaning of each phrase of the Lord’s prayer and also time that solely belongs to us and God. These two prayer rooms were a built up to the final highlight of the camp, Journey To The Cross. Journey To The Cross is an activity where we trace the footsteps of Jesus before His crucifixion on the cross to His resurrection. Using our senses, hear, see, smell, touch and taste, we visualise and feel how and what Jesus went through dying on the cross for our sins. Though we can only ‘go through’ a small portion of what He went through, im sure it has spoken to most of us about how much He love us.

Prayer is important in our daily life. It is a way we communicate with God. It is essential in our personal relationship with Him. Imagine not speaking to a loved one or a close friend. How long would the relationship last? Daily prayer with God is daily fellowship with our heavenly Father. It is truly amazing that God would want to have fellowship with us.

We also learnt to be persistent in our prayers. To always pray specifically, in faith and trust, believing that God will have His way in us. It is only when we make our request known to God that we may see His hand working in our lives. In fact, we also learnt to pause and listen, which is important in the midst of us busy making our request to God. Praying with Jesus in our midst is where we can witness God producing miracles and changing hearts, and therein lies its real power, its real value-the deep intimacy, the quiet communion with God at His throne. Prayer is a time and place where God manifests His never-ending love and desire to communicate with those who love Him. May this camp be a lesson learnt to continue our life with this vital way of talking to God in our everyday life.

The games throughout the days also were very exciting and well planned in having a key message to bring home, the armour of God. “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore,having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and,as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all timesin the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.” Eph 6:13-18

Thank God for the camp committee, for Celia, Zhi Yuan, Cheryl, Sherwin, Kym, Shannon and Ashley who avail themselves to serve in this committee. The camp would not be so fruitful without them being so detailed and well planned. Also thank God for Dominic and Eunice who guided their planning, the aunties who are such great chiefs and for those who helped up too! Most importantly, may all praise go to God who blessed us with such good weather & for overseeing the whole camp, keeping every camper safe. J

May God glorify His name in our lives as we believe in Him enough to come to Him often in prayer.

I'll be away in youth camp from 27-30th dec & immediately after, leaders retreat (LR) from the 31-2 Jan. :) very excited but it's gonna be a really busy week for me. In fact it has been a busy 'break'! In the midst of the two camps this week(I'll be away from home for a whole 7days! :( ), got to go find my lecturer to consult abt my coffee table book, print it out, self bind & publish it into a book, read half a book (for LR) & prepare a lesson, write out 5 essays(for sch)!!! All to be done in a week's time when I'm in camp. Pretty crazy!! I don't know how am I gonna do it seriously but I'm just gonna trust in God :D
Ps: I'll try to update after this hectic week!

The saddest thing is that, until now I haven't read my Christmas cards :((( doubt I'll read it the next 4days cause gotta leave early for camp. & Im feeling older manss! I feel super tired today cause I didn't have my 8hrs of sleep :O thank God at least we get to sleep on carpeted floor for the next 7 days :]
